Reducing Smoking in Pregnancy

eskimosoup is running the ‘Hull and Pregnant’ social media campaign as part of a wider social marketing campaign for NHS Hull that aims to reduce the number of women smoking during pregnancy.

Hull & Pregnant engages with pregnant women in Hull using a range of interactive social media appropriate to our target groups and as reinforced by independent scoping work.

The primary goal of the campaign to help women to stop smoking during pregnancy and access support services. The approach has already created a lot of interaction through facebook on a range of healthy lifestyle and pregnancy issues.

A portfolio of written, pictorial and video resources have been generated through speaking with pregnant women and health professionals to provide depth and interest in the campaign.

All resources are approved by a fully qualified healthy lifestyles midwife, who is also available to answer confidential questions via her Midwife Hull facebook profile.

eskimosoup are now beginning to take the campaign on the road to meet with pregnant women in Hull and promote the resources that are available.

Eventful times at eskimosoup

eskimosoup has appointed a new marketing and events manager to drive campaigns for some of Yorkshire’s top events venues.

Richard Quelch has joined the team to deliver ongoing marketing services for new clients including: the Bay Filey, Pickering Showground and Beverley Polo Club.

Rich began his marketing career in Leeds where he worked for a recruitment company for 3 years. Rich followed his heart by returning to Hull to become Events Manager for Hull Truck Theatre before being approached to join the eskimosoup team.

Rich had his loyalties tested when eskimosoup played Hull Truck at the Health Central Human Table Football Cup in July and bagged a hat trick against eskimosoup hence why he is such a happy bunny in the picture.*

Since joining the company he has been taken off the naughty step for his goal scoring misdemeanours and is now a key part of the marketing and events team: “I am genuinely excited to be a member of eskimosoup and now I finally get to say, I am now part of that creative and fun company!”

His role involves developing a business development strategy and events programme for sites owned and operated by the some of the region’s most successful entrepreneurs. The three sites are:

Pickering Showground is a 110 acre site, set in North Yorkshire, and is a suitable venue for a variety of different events. The site incorporates a 4,600 square metre events arena and hosts the annual Pickering Steam Rally.

The Beverley Polo Club plays host too many television filming opportunities. With around 10 home games a season, UK touring tournaments, the annual Yorkshire Nations Cup tournament and Tribfest; Europe’s largest tribute band music festival. www.beverleypoloclub.co.uk

The Bay Filey boasts a choice of excellent dining, retail and leisure facilities at the heart of miles of spectacular Yorkshire coastline and stunningly beautiful Yorkshire Wolds and Moors.

*Hull Truck went on to beat St Stephen’s in the final, whilst eskimosoup suffered quarter final elimination due to some dodgy refereeing and sloppy defending.

Passing on a healthy message

eskimosoup are promoting a new online training programme which aims to help people in Hull live a healthier lifestyle.

Altogether Healthier is a free service, provided by NHS Hull, helps local people gain a greater understanding about how to live a healthy lifestyle and the health services available in Hull. After completing the free online training, “Health Trainer Champions” will pass their new knowledge on to friends, colleagues and families.

eskimosoup were successful in tendering for the marketing campaign as commissioners liked our approach towards partnership and creative events.

The launch of Altogether Healthier was marked with a relay run around Hull designed to symbolise “passing forward” of health information and support. Joggers, walkers, prams and even a chain gang helped to spread the message that together the city can be a healthier, happier place to live.

The training programme, developed by Epic can be found at www.healthyhull.co.uk

eskimosoup enjoy the funny side of things!

eskimosoup has unveiled the full programme of shows for the 2010 Hull Comedy Festival taking place throughout the city from 21 October to 8 November.

Sarah Millican, Ross Noble, Tommy Tiernan, Mark Watson, Russell Kane, and Milton Jones are amongst performers bringing comedy to Hull.

eskimosoup’s Marketing Director, John Gilbert, who is the founder and director of the festival makes no secret about being excited: “I know I’m biased, though as a fan of live comedy I really do think this year is something special. We’ve got more exciting stuff going on than ever before and I keep showing people the brochure because I’m so proud of what everyone has put together.

I’m actually quite gutted that I can’t be in two or three places at once on a few nights during the festival because there is so much great comedy to enjoy!

If you were to ask me to name just two or three, must see shows, I would probably implode.”

Now in its fourth year, Hull Comedy Festival began as a partnership between eskimosoup and Hull BID. The festival is run in partnership with St Stephen’s, KCFM and KC Colour Pages, along with the support of several other local businesses and volunteers.

It is estimated that the festival has contributed over £400,000 to the local economy over the past three years. Organisers forecast that this year’s festival will break previous records in terms of overall tickets sold and additional local spend generated.

The full line-up of shows is available at www.hullcomedy.co.uk or through the festival brochure which is available from Tourist Information Centres and will be distributed throughout the area between now and the beginning of the festival.

PS: As noted in a previous blog post, eskimosoup did try our hand at stand-up comedy at the recent Bridlington Comedy Festival. Whilst Shane and Phill wussed out, John and Chris braved through and whilst both raised lots of laughs they have been professionally advised to stick to the day job!
